Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Canggu April 28th 2018

Bali Day 1 Feb. 12 I flew into Bali on Sunday midnight February 11 and landed in Bali super early February 12. I took a taxi to Canggu which is south of the island and about 1.5-2 hours from airport. The weather was hot, humid and tropical! It felt great to be in the tropics after some chilly weather in Dongguan. The ride to Canggu and my guesthouse Serenity Eco guesthouse was smooth although there was a lot of traffic. It remind me of Puerto La Cruz and Lecherias in Venezuela. There were houses or villas probably owned by rich Balinese Indonesians, some shacks and farms and a lot of vacant land that was just not claimed. The road was narrowed, sometimes two lane road one lane for each direction. Along the way, I also saw ... read more

At 5:00 AM I woke up to get on a private car to Guangzhou airport to catch a flight from Gz to Kuming got super early I’m the Morning. (Dongguan the city where I live does not have an airport so it’s either HK, ShenHen or Guanzhou and based on my experience GZ is easiest and cheapest to travel within China and Asia. I arrived super early to the airport which meant I had to wait about 30minutes to check in counter to open and nothing was open. I did my check in and security and tried to find a place for breakfast nothing opened. So I just chilled and waited for my flight. The flight was pretty smooth except for the heat which was pretty hot and I could not breath. I tried to tell ... read more

Canaima Venezuela I left Caracas to go to Maiquetia airport at 6:30 AM for a 10:40 AM flight to a Puerto Ordaz. Everything went smoothly and by 8:15 I was already sitting down and enjoying a delicious Venezuelan arepa de queso telita. I walked around bought some water and snacks and found my gate to sit down and wait for my flight by. The airport of Maiquetia is well equipped. It has a connective area for international flights , wifi, food and drinks, a couple of souvenir and other stuff shops, charging stations and screens and announcements. The flight left on time and I arrived at Puerto Ordaz around 11:30. I grabbed my backpack and headed out but first I stop to get some merry turron and a few more snacks. It took me while to ... read more

Varanasi day 1 Val and I took a rick to the airport early Saturday morning for noonish flight to Varanasi for our yoga retreat with people form The Yoga House in Bandra where we do yoga every weekend. Arrived at airport and checked in, had coffee and a few yoginis also on the retreat. The flight was smooth, I read and listened to music and chatted with Val. We arrived at Varanasi around 2 o'clock and our yoga teachers were waiting for us with 2 vans to go to our hotel. The first impression I had of Varanasi was that it looked like a small (but of 3million people) town. The main road for the airport into the city was two lane going both ways with lots of green and dirt areas along the sides. There ... read more

Malaysia 2015 Day 1 EARCOS teachers conference Spring break arrived early for me, yay!! I registered for an international teacher's conference (EARCOS) in the beautiful, sunny, warm, blue sky friendly Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia! The first part of this blog is short and most of it is simply a summary of the conference. I flew to Malaysia on a Tuesday night from Mumbai. The flight was long and through Singapore, however Singapore Air is one of the best airlines in Asia with a lot of leg and seat space, great snacks and food and an awesome selection of movies, so I snuggled in my seat iPod and earplugs in place, kobo reader on my hands and enjoyed some music reading and movies. After an overnight flight mid morning of Wednesday, I arrived in sunny, warm, tropical, beautiful ... read more

Asia » China » Shaanxi » Xi'an November 25th 2014

I went to Xi'An for the May 1st long weekend 2014. I hadnt written a blog so here is a short update with photos. I flew late night from Dalian to Xi'An and arrived by local bus to my hostel. I was feeling a little sick and sneezing, wheezing, coughing and ended up having a cold so I slept for most of the day on my first day. I wandered around the Muslim headquarters, tried some good spice food (in spite of the nasal congestion I could still try the spices in the food), wandered through the Bell and Drum towers and got lost in the alleys of the old city shopping for souvenirs and sightseeing, The next day I took the tour to the Terracotta Warriors Army. The first part was ok and overly priced ... read more

I waited for like 20 minutes and the guide showed up first, then the owner of the agency and then the Australian gal Anna. We left our bags in the office and got ourselves in a taxi and drive up to Nayaipul ( which is the start of a few treks and it is about 1 hour from Pokhara. The ride was through the mountains and countryside and the road was curvy and windy. Murud, maharashtra For The Lord Ganesh holiday ( long weekend) of September 6-8 a group of teachers decided to rent a bus and head out to Murud off the western coast of India about four hours outside of Mumbai. We left Saturday morning at around 7 AM after several pickup locations ( first satellite towers then Oberoi woods and finally Elanza, my building!) The morning was chilly and wet as it had rained the night before. We rode on the highway towards South West Mumbai. The bus ride was smooth and uneventful some people slept while others were goofing around and listening to music. We stop for breakfast at McDonalds (yuk) I guess working with American teachers I have to accept their choice of food:-( they ate there while I drank coffee and took some photos ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Palawan » El Nido » Miniloc May 3rd 2014

First day at El Nido Kayaking and hiking ( or shall I say rock climbing) I woke up to the sounds of trikes honking horns, dogs barking and roosters cock-a-doodle -do! I took a quick shower and got dressed to schedule tours for the day and he next day. I walked in the Art Caffe and talked to the ladies there and booked a kayaking-snorkeling-island hopping boat combo tour for Sunday. A hiking tour for the afternoon and a kayak for the morning. I walked around the main area where all the bars, restos, hostels, guesthouses and shops are and I bought a few small souvenirs. Then I wandered around the outside streets and walked into El Nido town. El Nido is in central Palawan it is a bay called Bacuit ( not sure spelling) it ... read more

Wednesday January 29 Flight 1 Day 1 traveling from China to The Phillippines I woke up at 6:30 am to get ready for my very long, but exciting traveling day. The previous night I was so excited I drank a late evening latte and stayed awake for quite awhile. I ended up falling asleep at around 3 AM so by the time it was time to wake up I was pretty sleepy. I got dressed, had my last cup of coffee with milk and double checked that I had everything and left for the Quing Guai ride to Jin Jia jie and then a taxi to the Dalian airport. (I should have triple checked because I ended up forgetting my athletic sandals ahhhh!) The train ride and airport wait was smooth and pretty normal . I ... read more
